**Reasons Why KPK Prefers Suitcases Over Plastic for Carrying Evidence from Hasto Kristiyanto’s House**
In a recent development, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has responded to questions raised by PDIP elites regarding the use of suitcases by their investigators to transport search results from the residence of PDIP Secretary-General, Hasto Kristiyanto.
**The Importance of Secure Handling**
Asep Guntur, Director of Investigations at KPK, shed light on the rationale behind using suitcases for transporting the seized items, despite their relatively small size. According to him, the investigators aim to ensure that the confiscated items remain secure and intact throughout the transportation process.
**Safety First**
“We use suitcases to transport the seized items to ensure they are safely stored. We do not make any statements regarding the quantity of items seized compared to the size of the suitcase. Our priority is to securely store the confiscated items in a safe location,” stated Asep at the KPK’s Red and White Building in South Jakarta on Wednesday (8/1/2025).
**The Suitcase Solution**
Asep emphasized that suitcases provide the safest medium for transporting the search results. Using plastic bags, he explained, could lead to the items being scattered or damaged during transit. Therefore, the choice of suitcases over other alternatives is primarily driven by the need to guarantee the safety and integrity of the seized evidence.
**Criticism from PDIP**
Earlier, PDIP Secretary-General’s legal team, represented by Ronny Talapessy, responded to the KPK’s search operation at Hasto Kristiyanto’s residences in Kebagusan and Bekasi. Ronny stated that no significant items related to the ongoing investigation involving Hasto were found during the search, particularly concerning his alleged connection to former PDIP cadre Harun Masiku, who is currently a fugitive.
In light of these developments, the KPK’s decision to utilize suitcases for transporting the seized items underscores their commitment to ensuring the integrity and security of crucial evidence in high-profile cases. This meticulous approach reflects the agency’s dedication to upholding transparency and accountability in their anti-corruption efforts.
