Briptu WR Suspected of Misusing Rp900 Million for Online Gambling, Police Investigate
Pemalang, Jawa Tengah – The Central Java Regional Police are currently investigating the alleged misuse of fraudulently obtained money by Briptu WR, a member of the Pemalang Police Department. The fraud has resulted in a loss of Rp 900 million for a victim identified as S, a 54-year-old pottery artisan.
Background of the Fraud
The deception began when S attempted to enroll his two children as members of the Indonesian National Police. Briptu WR promised to facilitate the admission of the victim’s children but failed to fulfill his promise. After being unable to return the money taken, S reported the case to the police in September 2024. The victim incurred the loss after selling a rice field to cover the funds.
Investigation and Ethics Hearing
The Central Java Regional Police are currently investigating the use of the fraudulently obtained money, including suspicions that Briptu WR used the funds for online gambling. According to the Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Regional Police, Kombes Pol Artanto, the police are delving into the matter to determine the purpose of the money. The case is divided into two parts: criminal and ethical violations.
The Ethics Commission of the Indonesian National Police (KKEP) is scheduled to hold a hearing this week, with the possibility of Briptu WR facing dismissal. The criminal case has been processed by investigators, and WR is currently detained at the Pemalang Police Station.
