Tanah Abang textile market in pictures

19/10/2026 11 photos

Tanah Abang is one of Jakarta’s best-known centres for textiles and clothing. Its market buildings and surrounding streets serve retailers and shoppers from across the country, with fabrics, garments and wholesale activity at the heart of the visit. The area is also part of a busy Central Jakarta neighbourhood, so the streets and transport links are part of the experience.

Explore the market buildings and their surrounding streets, taking time to notice the range of goods and the flow of trade. The station and nearby roads help place the market in its wider urban setting. Walkways and streets can be crowded, so allow time to move around. If you want to photograph traders or customers, ask first; a food-court stop is another way to take a break during your visit.
