A 3-year-old child is missing after a rubber boat capsized in Tebet, Jakarta, amidst the floods that have ravaged the city since Monday, March 3, 2025. The young boy, identified as Atar Malik, was reportedly swept away by the floodwaters in the Kebon Baru area of South Jakarta on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. As of now, a joint search and rescue team is diligently scouring the area for the missing child.
The tragic incident unfolded as Atar Malik and his family were being evacuated from their home in Gang Perintis, RT 010 RW 010, Kebon Baru, using a rubber boat. The evacuation took place around 2:51 PM, following the rising water levels caused by the flooding in the area. However, on their way to a safer location, the rubber boat they were on capsized due to the swift currents in Gang Perintis.
Head of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, revealed that three individuals were swept away by the currents, with two of them being rescued by the evacuation team and local residents. Unfortunately, Atar Malik could not be immediately located and was declared missing, carried away by the Ciliwung River currents. “The victim is still being searched for,” Isnawa stated in his remarks on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.

Since the incident was reported, a collaborative effort involving teams from various agencies has been mobilized to conduct the search operation. The search team includes members from the Prevention and Disaster Management Unit (P2B) of BPBD, the Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat), as well as personnel from the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP). In addition, the search also involves the local police from the Tebet Sub-District Police and members of the local military command.
Equipped with various tools, including rubber boats and underwater detection devices, the search teams are working tirelessly to expedite the search process. Several points along the Ciliwung River are the primary focus of the search, considering the strong currents that could carry the victim to distant locations.
