Kriss Hatta Faces Backlash from Senior DJs in the Music Industry, Why?
Kriss Hatta, a rising star in the Indonesian music scene, recently revealed that he has been met with animosity from several senior Disc Jockeys (DJs) since he entered the industry three years ago. The reason behind this hostility? Hatta believes that his presence as a newcomer is perceived as a threat by some established DJs.
As per Kriss, the tension arises from his ability to understand and play music commonly performed by senior DJs, despite being a fresh face in the industry. This proficiency has led some to view him as presumptuous.
“This is a new field for me. Being a DJ is my side job, while for them, it’s their main job. I’m clearly not better, but at least I understand what they’re playing,” shared Kriss Hatta during a recent encounter in Tebet, South Jakarta.
Moreover, Kriss disclosed the strategies he employs to boost his popularity in the DJ world. He openly admitted to creating specific gimmicks intentionally to capture public attention.
“Consumers need to be aware of us. So, I create gimmicks – I did it in the first year, then repeated it in the third year,” he explained.
Despite facing criticism and veiled remarks from the DJ community, the 36-year-old sees it as free promotion.
“They even made specific content to criticize me. It’s okay, that’s good. That’s my target,” he concluded.
Kriss also recounted receiving a direct message (DM) from a renowned DJ, urging him to abandon his DJ career.
“One famous DJ sent me a DM, saying, ‘Why are you a DJ? Stick to acting. Being a DJ is, blah blah blah.’ Something along those lines,” Kriss revealed.
Kriss Hatta’s journey in the music industry sheds light on the challenges faced by newcomers and the importance of resilience in pursuing one’s passion. Despite the hurdles, his determination to carve a niche for himself in the competitive DJ world serves as an inspiration for aspiring artists everywhere.
