Menteri KKP Trenggono Kesal Pagar Laut Dibongkar TNI AL: Tunggu, Itu Barang Bukti!
Menteri Kelautan dan Perikanan, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, expressed his frustration over the dismantling of a sea barrier in the waters of Tangerang by the Indonesian Navy (TNI Angkatan Laut). He stated that the removal should not have been carried out as the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is currently in the process of investigating to identify who installed the sea barrier. “The removal should have been postponed until we know the culprit, making the investigation process easier,” said Minister Trenggono at Kedonganan Beach, Badung Regency, Bali, on Sunday (19/1/2025).
Delay in Removal for Investigation Process
KKP has signaled a delay in the removal of the 30-kilometer sea barrier at Tanjung Pasir Beach, Teluknaga District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, as the investigation is ongoing. Minister Trenggono emphasized that the bamboo sea barrier should serve as evidence of the alleged illegal activity. “I heard news of the dismantling by the Navy, I was unaware; it should have been kept as evidence. Once the law has identified the perpetrator, processed the case, then it can be removed,” he stated.
Despite parts of the sea barrier being removed, Minister Trenggono assured that the investigation process continues. KKP has sealed off the mysterious sea barrier to facilitate the investigation process. He clarified that no permits were submitted by any party for installing the sea barrier to KKP. If there were any applications, they would have scrutinized the details of the waters to ensure they do not encroach on conservation areas. “If there were such requests, we would definitely prohibit such activities. However, no applications were made, so we proceeded with sealing off the area,” he explained.
Administrative Sanctions and Environmental Concerns
Minister Trenggono mentioned that KKP can only impose administrative sanctions within their authority. Legal penalties and the potential loss to the state, he added, fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. “In terms of the environment, I believe the Minister of Environment and Forestry is responsible for assessing the damages. From our end, illegal activities at sea are dealt with administratively,” he concluded.
