How to Report Misbehaving Officers in Bali Police Department via WhatsApp After Foreigner was Extorted
In a recent incident involving a Colombian national being extorted for Rp200,000 after reporting a lost cellphone, the Bali Regional Police Department has assured the public that they will not criminalize citizens reporting alleged violations committed by police officers in Bali. Following this case, two officers from the Kuta Police Station have been sanctioned with special assignments.
Using WhatsApp to Report Misconduct
“Feel free to report via WhatsApp, we will definitely follow up on social media reports. There will be no criminalization,” stated the Head of Public Relations of the Bali Regional Police, Commissioner Ariasandy, in Badung on Tuesday (1/21/2025). He emphasized that in this era of transparency, no information can be concealed. Therefore, any individual can report anything through any platform so that their performance can be monitored.
Ariasandy sees social media as an effective means of supervision in addition to formal reporting. However, the accuracy of data from each public report must be considered to avoid harming others.
“Whatever information is reported by the public through social media platforms, we will definitely verify its accuracy. If they are wrong, we will take action. If they are incorrect, we will correct it,” he said.
Enforcing Standard Operating Procedures
Ariasandy reminded officers at each Integrated Police Service Center (SPKT) to adhere to standard operating procedures regulated by laws and regulations.
“Those on duty at the SPKT already have SOPs on how to receive reports, treat reporting individuals, and so on. If they violate the SOP, it means they are violating discipline or even professional ethics,” he emphasized.
As part of their commitment to accountability and transparency, the Bali Regional Police Department encourages the public to report any misconduct or violations by police officers through various platforms, including WhatsApp. By utilizing social media and official channels, they aim to ensure that law enforcement officers uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in serving the community.
