The postponement of the inauguration of Pram-Dul by F-PDIP DPRD Jakarta has sparked concerns and raised questions among members of the Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council. Scheduled for the 7th of February 2025, the swearing-in ceremony for the Governor and Vice Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung and Rano Karno (Pram-Dul), has been delayed, prompting Fraksi PDI Perjuangan representative Brando Susanto to voice his reservations.
Referring to Presidential Regulation No. 80/2024, which governs the inauguration of local leaders for the 2024/2025 period, there should have been no grounds for postponing the inauguration of the Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta following the simultaneous local elections in 2024, on the 7th of February 2025.
Brando Susanto emphasized that the only circumstances that would warrant a postponement of the inauguration on the 7th of February 2025 would be in the event of a dispute in the Constitutional Court (MK), a runoff election (due to less than 50% of the vote), or a force majeure event such as a disaster or emergency situation.
None of these conditions have been met in the case of the inauguration of the Governor and Vice Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. The decision to delay the inauguration without a clear rescheduled date is likely to lead to complications.
“As we can see, the public is eagerly awaiting confirmation of the date for the swearing-in of the elected local leaders. Relying on an acting leader often results in significant dissatisfaction among the population,” Brando remarked. Furthermore, acting leaders are not chosen by the people and exercise authority that has not been acquired through democratic means. On the other hand, the definitive powers of a governor and vice governor, supported by the majority of the Jakarta populace, are undoubtedly more robust than those of an acting leader.
Brando posed the question of whether Pram-Doel would be adversely affected by the delay, considering that their term would still be five years long. However, he pointed out that the real losers in this situation would be the people of Jakarta. The uncertainty surrounding the delay and lack of clarity regarding the rescheduled inauguration date are likely to breed widespread anxiety and discontent among a populace eagerly anticipating new leadership from a Governor directly elected by them.
### Expert Insights on the Impact of the Delay
In light of these developments, political analysts have weighed in on the potential consequences of the inauguration postponement. Dr. Maria Indah, a prominent political scientist, highlighted the importance of a smooth transition of power in upholding democratic principles and ensuring public trust in governance.
Dr. Indah emphasized that delays in the inauguration process can erode public confidence in the political system and create a sense of instability. She noted that while interim leaders serve a vital role in governance, their legitimacy is fundamentally different from that of elected officials. The prolonged absence of elected leaders can lead to governance gaps and hinder the implementation of long-term policies, affecting the welfare of the population.
As discussions continue regarding the repercussions of the delayed inauguration, the Jakarta public remains eager for clarity and certainty in the transition of leadership. The coming days will be crucial in determining the course of events and addressing the concerns raised by the postponement of the Pram-Dul inauguration.
