In a recent police operation, a motorcycle theft gang that had been using toy guns to intimidate victims was apprehended in Lampung. The gang, consisting of individuals with initials AA (25), SS (24), and H (37), was known to operate in the areas of Jakarta Timur, Bekasi, and Depok. The Director of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi, disclosed that the operational team of Unit 2 Jatanras of the Jakarta Metro Police conducted on-site inspections, reviewed CCTV footage, and carried out investigations to identify clues and characteristics of the perpetrators.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, around 1:30 pm local time at Jl. Riverside Golf Club Kel. Bojong Nangka Kec. Gn Putri Kab. Bogor, West Java, the team successfully apprehended the suspects AA and SS. Later, at approximately 3:00 pm in Jl. Babakan Raden Kab. Bogor, West Java, the team also succeeded in capturing the other perpetrator, H. The three suspects were then taken to the Subdit Jatanras PMJ for further questioning, as mentioned by Ade during a press briefing on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
It was revealed that AA acted as the driver, SS as the picker, and H as the receiver in the criminal activities. Through the interrogation process, it was uncovered that the trio had committed theft three times. The initial incident occurred in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, on January 20, 2025, followed by another in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, on January 27, 2025. The most recent case that gained attention was in Cilodong, Depok, West Java, on February 6, 2025, which went viral.
According to Ade Ary, the motorcycle theft gang typically operated during daylight hours, targeting parked motorcycles left unattended by their owners at home. The modus operandi involved damaging the ignition key and then stealing the victim’s motorcycle while brandishing toy weapons to instill fear in the victims. The three suspects were formally charged and detained at the Jakarta Metro Police detention center.
They have been charged under Article 363 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) related to aggravated theft, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 7 years. The apprehension of this gang marks a significant breakthrough in combating motorcycle theft and ensuring public safety in the region. As authorities continue to crack down on such criminal activities, it sends a clear message that law enforcement is actively working to protect citizens and maintain law and order in the community.
