So, like, the big boss of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Agus Subiyanto, decided to shake things up by moving around 237 high-ranking officers. This whole shuffle was laid out in a decision made on April 29, 2025. It’s all about appointing and removing folks from their posts within the Indonesian military. Out of these 237 officers, there were 109 from the Army, 64 from the Navy, and 64 from the Air Force. This whole thing is part of a leadership regeneration process, sprucing up the organization, and adapting to the ever-evolving strategic needs of the military. One of the key changes made was swapping out Lieutenant General Kunto Arief Wibowo as the Commander of the Joint Defense Region Command I and replacing him with Rear Admiral Hersan. Kunto, who officially took on the role in mid-January 2025, is now being moved to some ‘special staff’ position in the Army. Talk about a downgrade, right? Even though Kunto is a three-star general, he’s no longer calling the shots. Taking his place is Rear Admiral Hersan, who’s currently the Commander of the Fleet Command III. By stepping into the shoes of Commander Joint Defense Region Command I, Hersan will be promoted to a three-star general. Fun fact: Hersan used to be President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) former aide and Military Secretary. The spot Hersan is leaving behind will be filled by Rear Admiral Hudiarto Krisno Utomo. Oh, and let’s not forget about the two three-star generals who were working as permanent lecturers at the University of Defense. They’re now being reassigned as special staff in the Army and Navy. It’s like a military musical chairs game, but with more serious consequences. One of them, Rear Admiral Agus Hariadi, who was working as the Secretary General of the National Resilience Council, is now moving to a special staff position in the Navy. All this happened because the National Resilience Council got disbanded by President Prabowo Subianto after he set up the National Defense Council based on Presidential Regulation Number 202 of 2024. It’s a lot of changes happening all at once in the Indonesian military. Who knows what’s next? Maybe a new cafeteria menu or a uniform color change? Not really sure why this matters, but it’s definitely keeping things interesting in the military landscape.
