Accidents Caused by Weak Engine on Cipularang Toll Road: Sudden Reversal
TRIBUNNEWS.COM – The police are still investigating the cause of a series of accidents on the Cipularang Toll Road at KM 97 A (toward Bandung), in the Darangdan District, Purwakarta Regency, West Java, on Sunday, (5/1/2025), around 09.00 AM.
Kasatlantas Polres Purwakarta, AKP Dadang Supriadi, explained that a truck driver named Pingi (38) reported that the vehicle’s engine died, causing the truck to suddenly reverse. However, the exact reason for the truck’s reversal is still under investigation.
“Dadang told reporters that the authorities have evacuated the vehicles involved and taken the truck driver to the Purwakarta Police Station for further questioning,” as quoted from TribunJabar, Monday (6/1/2025).
The incident began with a coal-loaded truck with license plate number E 9134 D, which was believed to be unable to climb and ended up reversing, crashing into other vehicles behind it.
Mechanical Failure Leads to Multiple Collisions
Ipda Dadang Setiawan, a toll road officer at Cipularang, explained that the Hino Tronton truck driven by Pingi, a resident of Central Lampung, reversed after failing to climb the A lane, from Jakarta towards Bandung.
“The truck then collided with a Primajasa bus bound for Bekasi-Garut, a travel car, and two minibusses behind it,” he said.
All the vehicles involved in the accident have been taken to the Jatiluhur Purwakarta towing pool. The police’s Traffic Accident Unit in Purwakarta is handling the case.
Six Vehicles Involved in the Accident
The chain reaction crash involved six vehicles, including one truck, two buses, and three minibusses. Agni Mayvinna, Senior Manager of the Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad Regional Division at Plaza Tol Pasteur, Bandung, mentioned that two people were injured in the incident, but fortunately, there were no fatalities.
“There are no fatalities from this incident, and based on preliminary data, there are two injured victims who have been evacuated to Abdul Rodjak Hospital in Purwakarta for further treatment,” she revealed.
Agni emphasized the importance of caution on the road, urging all drivers to anticipate changes in weather and ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition.
