Voice Acting Challenges in Animation Film Jumbo
Renowned actress and singer Bunga Citra Lestari, known affectionately as BCL, has taken on the role of voicing the character of Don’s mother in the upcoming animated feature film, Jumbo. Stepping into the realm of animation, BCL found herself facing a unique set of challenges that tested her skills and creativity.
In a recent press conference held in Senayan on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, BCL shared her experience of bringing the character of Don’s mother to life. She explained how the character she portrays, a gentle and caring mother, contrasts with her real-life persona, which she describes as more aloof. This stark difference posed an interesting challenge for BCL as she navigated the nuances of portraying a maternal figure on screen.
“When it comes to voicing Don’s mother, I had to find a way to infuse her character with the warmth and tenderness that define her, which is quite different from my own demeanor,” BCL remarked, highlighting the complexity of her role.
The Indonesian talent expressed her pride in being a part of the Jumbo film, emphasizing the significance of Indonesian creators in producing high-quality animation works. Recalling the emotional moment she was first introduced to the project by the producer, Anggia, BCL shared, “I was overwhelmed with pride when I saw the initial animations. It was a touching moment for me to see our nation’s ability to create such remarkable works.”
With high hopes for Jumbo, BCL aspires for the film to resonate with both children and adults on a profound level. She emphasized the nostalgic element of the film, which she believes will evoke cherished childhood memories among adult viewers. “Jumbo is not just for our children but also for the child within us. It allows us, as adults, to reconnect with our inner child, creating a heartwarming experience for all,” BCL expressed.
The star-studded cast of Jumbo includes Ariel Noah as Don’s father, Ratna Riantiarno as Don’s grandmother, and voice actors Prince Poetiray and Den Bagus Sasono portraying Don himself. The film, produced by Visinema Studios, has unveiled both an official trailer and poster, giving audiences a glimpse into the enchanting world of Jumbo.
The trailer showcases the adventures of Don, a cheerful child who treasures the fairy tales passed down by his parents. Raised with love and care by his guardians, Don, along with his friends Nurman and Mae, embarks on a journey to pursue his passion for the arts. However, their plans are thwarted when Don’s beloved book of fairy tales is stolen by the envious Atta, setting the stage for an exhilarating quest.
Directed by Ryan Adriandhy, the official poster of Jumbo features the vibrant characters set against the backdrop of Seruni Village. Don and his friends, riding modified bicycles, appear ready for an adventure, with Atta and his sister Acil, alongside other villagers, adding to the lively scene. Jumbo, a heartwarming animated film, is set to hit Indonesian theaters during the Eid holiday season in 2025, promising a delightful cinematic experience for audiences of all ages.
