Italy Welcomes Young Patients from Gaza for Medical Care
In a heartwarming display of solidarity and compassion, the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday, February 14, 2025, that Italy will be hosting 14 young patients from Gaza, Palestine, for medical treatment. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to assist children affected by the conflict between Hamas and Israel.
A total of 45 individuals, including the patients’ families, were flown to Italy from Gaza, departing through the Rafah border to Egypt on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. Prior to their journey to Italy, the 14 children underwent medical examinations at a hospital in Cairo, as reported by Arab News.
Transported by an Italian military aircraft, the children arrived at Ciampino Airport in Rome on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in the evening local time. Upon their arrival in Italy, they were warmly welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani.
Tajani emphasized that providing medical care for these young Palestinian patients is a crucial aspect of solidarity-based diplomacy aimed at restoring hope for the most vulnerable individuals. This gesture also reflects Italy’s commitment to promoting peace and dialogue in the Middle East region.
Some of the children will receive treatment at hospitals in Rome, while others will be accommodated in various healthcare facilities in cities like Turin and Milan. Two of the children who arrived in Rome will undergo specialized treatment at the Bambino Gesu Hospital in the Vatican, which had previously cared for nine Palestinian children last year.
The nine children, ranging from one to fifteen years old, have since returned home after completing their treatment. Minister of Defense Italy, Guido Crosetto, highlighted the significance of providing care to these children in brightening their hopes for the future.
“Every child we bring to Italy represents a symbol of hope, a commitment to life and the future,” stated Crosetto.
