Efforts to Clean Up Bali Beaches
Kedonganan Beach in Bali witnessed a remarkable event on Sunday, January 19, 2025. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) joined forces with the coastal community to tackle the prevalent issue of marine debris. The collaborative clean-up initiative aimed to enhance the effectiveness of waste management in the ocean, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in preserving marine ecosystems.
Empowering Coastal Communities
During the event, KKP facilitated the distribution of essential tools for waste collection and disposal. Kelompok Usaha Bersama (KUB) Simbar Segara received a three-wheeled vehicle and ten canoes to aid in their efforts to clean up the coastline. Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, highlighted the significance of empowering local communities and fostering environmental awareness among fishermen and coastal residents. The program, known as Bulan Cinta Laut (Ocean Love Month), exemplifies the collaborative approach taken by various ministries and local authorities to address marine pollution.
Community Engagement and Collaboration
Trenggono emphasized the collective responsibility shared by all stakeholders in combating marine pollution. Over 8,000 individuals participated in the beach clean-up at Kedonganan, showcasing a strong commitment to environmental conservation. The Minister expressed his hope that such initiatives would extend to other regions across Indonesia, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship nationwide. Following the clean-up activities at Kedonganan, KKP, in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) and local government agencies, convened a coordination meeting to strategize on addressing marine waste issues in Bali.
Unity in Action
The clean-up efforts at Kedonganan Beach brought together diverse segments of society, including local communities, students, environmental organizations, and volunteers. The activities encompassed waste collection, segregation by type, weighing, and transportation to disposal sites, reflecting a comprehensive approach to waste management. Minister Trenggono’s vision of a cleaner, healthier marine environment resonated with the participants, inspiring a sense of unity and shared responsibility in safeguarding Bali’s pristine beaches and marine biodiversity.
