So, apparently there’s this whole thing going on with the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) and some issues they found with a program sending naughty kids to military barracks in West Java. The Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, is suggesting that KPAI should do more than just point out the flaws in the Character Education, Discipline, and National Defense Specialization program rolled out by the West Java Provincial Government. He’s like, “Hey, KPAI, don’t just sit there and nitpick at what we’re doing to handle emergencies, take some action, will ya?” This was said at the Red and White Building of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Jakarta on Monday, 19th May 2025, after a meeting with the anti-corruption commission to discuss the reallocation of the West Java Provincial Government’s budget. Dedi made this statement in response to KPAI’s findings that students participating in the program were not assessed by professional psychologists, only by guidance and counseling teachers. KPAI also found out that 6.7% of the students didn’t even know why they were in the program.
Dedi went on to say that KPAI should take steps to address the various problems faced by our teenagers. Whether it’s issues at home or school that ultimately lead to criminal activities. He’s like, “Come on, KPAI, let’s do something about it instead of just talking.” He also mentioned that KPAI could create a program targeting thousands of troubled students in West Java to help them overcome their issues. “If KPAI keeps getting caught up in stuff like beds and whatnot, they won’t be able to solve the real problems,” he added. Furthermore, he suggested that KPAI should look into the impact of the West Java Provincial Government’s program on troubled students. “Hey, KPAI, check it out, 39 kids already finished the program, how are they doing now? Are they more disciplined, compassionate, maybe shedding a tear in front of their moms and kissing their feet. School might not teach you that,” he said. On another note, he mentioned that on Tuesday, 20th May 2025, a total of 273 students would graduate from the program held at the Education Depot for National Defense of the 3rd Siliwangi Military Command District, West Bandung Regency, West Java. He then stated that in the future, the West Java Provincial Government plans to nurture 15-20 thousand troubled students through the Character Education, Discipline, and National Defense Specialization program.
