DPR Member Addresses Coretax Issues: Challenges Expected in the Initial Phase

A recent development in the tax administration system has been the introduction of Coretax, a new solution designed to modernize tax administration in Indonesia. However, within just a month of its implementation, Coretax has faced several challenges, as admitted by Fathi, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI.

Fathi, speaking at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, acknowledged that disruptions to the Coretax system were expected, given its novelty. He highlighted that Coretax is part of the Core Tax Administration System Renewal Project (PSIAP), which aims to streamline and modernize tax administration processes. Despite the initial hiccups, Fathi assured that steps were being taken to address the issues.

During a meeting with the Directorate General of Taxation at the Ministry of Finance, Fathi mentioned that they had agreed to resolve the problems promptly. “The Director-General of Taxation has committed to addressing these issues swiftly and seriously so that the country’s revenue is not affected,” Fathi stated. This commitment reflects the importance of Coretax in improving tax compliance and reporting for taxpayers.

## Evaluation and Progress Monitoring

When asked about the possibility of postponing Coretax implementation, Fathi emphasized that regular evaluations would be conducted to assess its performance. “Periodic evaluations will be carried out in that manner. Coretax is indeed crucial, but cancellation or postponement is not on the table yet,” he explained. The focus remains on ironing out the operational challenges to ensure a smooth transition to the new tax administration system.

Misbakhun, the Chairman of the DPR Commission XI, shed light on the ten fundamental issues hindering Coretax’s smooth operation. While he refrained from detailing these problems, he mentioned that they were discussed during a closed-door meeting after which a decision was made to address them effectively.

## Coretax: A Transformative Tax Administration System

Coretax represents the latest in information technology advancements developed by the Directorate General of Taxation to integrate all tax administration services in Indonesia. The system aims to replace the fragmented legacy tax systems with a unified platform, streamlining tax processes from taxpayer registration and tax return submissions to payment processing and tax audits.

However, since its rollout on January 1, 2025, Coretax has faced criticism and complaints from taxpayers. Issues ranging from digital certificate problems to invoice generation and technical glitches in servers and user interfaces have plagued the system. Taxpayers have taken to social media platforms to voice their concerns, highlighting the challenges they face in adapting to the new system.

In conclusion, while Coretax holds promise for revolutionizing tax administration in Indonesia, its teething problems underscore the complexity of implementing such transformative systems. As stakeholders work together to iron out the issues and enhance user experience, the ultimate goal remains to create a more efficient and transparent tax system for the benefit of all taxpayers.
