Minister of Social Affairs Deploys Disaster Response Unit to Assist in Landslide Evacuation and Aid for Victims’ Families
BATAM – The Ministry of Social Affairs has mobilized the Disaster Response Unit (Tagana) to carry out the evacuation of landslide victims and assist affected residents in the Sekupang area of Batam. Tagana is working in collaboration with the Batam City Fire and Rescue Agency, Basarnas, the Indonesian National Defense Forces/Police, the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), and local residents to facilitate the evacuation process.
The landslide, which occurred on Monday (13/1/2025) at 01.30 am, resulted in the destruction of 5 houses, the death of four individuals, and injuries to several others.
“Kemensos has deployed Tagana Batam to assist in the search and evacuation of landslide victims in Sekupang,” stated Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) on Wednesday (15/1/2025).
The four victims were found deceased on Tuesday (14/1/2025). According to available data, the deceased individuals are Mujiad, Sukarni, Linda Luciana, and Doni Aprianto. All victims were residents of Tiban Batu, Sekupang District.
Tagana is also coordinating with the local Social Services Office to quickly compile necessary documents so that death benefits for the families can be promptly distributed.
A compensation of Rp15 million per person will be provided to the heirs of the deceased. Additionally, medical expenses for the injured individuals will be covered by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
In addition to providing compensation to the heirs, the Ministry of Social Affairs is also focused on restoring the social functions of affected residents. Counseling and trauma healing services are being provided in collaboration with other relevant parties.
