Family of Alleged Police Assault Victim Given Rp 25 Million Before Death
The family of Darso, a resident of Kampung Gilisari, Purwosari Village, Mijen District, Semarang City, Central Java (Jateng), who passed away after allegedly being beaten by several police officers from the Yogyakarta Police Traffic Unit, was given Rp 25 million by the suspected perpetrators. However, the family considered this money as funeral funds that would be returned.
Legal representative of Darso’s family, Antoni Yudha Timor, revealed that after Darso passed away following treatment at the hospital, the suspected police officers came to Semarang. “They came to Semarang three times if I’m not mistaken. When they came, they were in uniform,” Antoni said during an interview with the media at the Central Java Police Headquarters in Semarang on Friday night.
According to Antoni, the arrival of the suspected police officers in Semarang was for the purpose of mediating with Darso’s family. At that time, Darso’s family had not appointed Antoni as their legal representative. Antoni explained that when they arrived in Semarang, the suspected police officers offered funeral money to Darso’s family. “From what I heard after conducting an investigation, the victim’s family only received Rp 25 million. They accepted it unknowingly,” he said.
Antoni stated that the money was handed over to Darso’s sibling with the intention of being returned through him. “The money is still intact until today,” he added. Antoni admitted that he had contacted the suspected police officers who gave the Rp 25 million. However, they refused to come back to Semarang and even asked him to go to Yogyakarta, which he declined.
Darso’s family reported the alleged assault and beating case to the Central Java Police last Friday night.
### Background of the Incident
Antoni Yudha Timor, the legal representative of Darso’s family, explained that the incident of alleged assault against Darso (43 years old) began with a traffic accident in Yogyakarta City in July 2024. “Darso was driving, hit someone, then took responsibility, was taken to a clinic. But maybe because he didn’t have money, he left his ID,” Antoni said during an interview.
After the accident, Darso returned to Semarang. “Out of fear, his car was a rental car, he then went to Jakarta to earn money,” Antoni revealed. Darso stayed in Jakarta for about 1.5 to two months. However, since his efforts to make money were unsuccessful, he returned to Semarang. “One week in Semarang, Darso was picked up by people suspected to be members of the Yogyakarta Police Traffic Unit. They came in a car, three of them got out, asked the victim’s wife if this was Mr. Darso’s address,” Antoni explained.
