In a small village called Ciburial in Cibogo, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency, eight residents found themselves in a sticky situation on Thursday (15/5/2025). They got caught under a landslide from a 25-meter-high cliff when heavy rain poured down on the area the night before (14/5/2025).
Disaster struck the Lembang tourism area in West Bandung Regency on Wednesday night, with floods and landslides hitting several villages in Lembang District. The landslide hit an area where people were fishing at Ciburial Village, Cibogo Village, Lembang District, causing nearly dozens of fishermen to almost get buried by the landslide. The Lembang Sub-District Police Chief, Commissioner Hadi Mulyana, mentioned that around 25 fishermen were at the fishing area when the incident occurred. They were shocked by the sudden landslide. “Initially, there was information that 25 fishermen were buried, but we corrected the information that it was not true. So, no one was buried, just hit by the landslide material a little bit,” said Hadi when asked for confirmation. Out of the 25 fishermen affected by the landslide debris, about five of them suffered injuries. They were then evacuated to the nearest community health center. “Information states that 5 have been taken to the health center, just injuries. But data collection is ongoing to ensure that no one is buried,” said Hadi.
At present, the West Bandung Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) officers have arrived at the scene to assess the impact of the landslide and the victims still undergoing treatment. “Immediate handling is being carried out by the West Bandung Regency BPBD, with police officers also checking the location,” he added. Meanwhile, flooding in Lembang due to heavy rain occurred at several points, including Panorama Lembang Highway and Maribaya Street. “The flood has started to recede, although it did disrupt the activities of motorists because the main road was submerged with water about 50 centimeters high,” Hadi explained. On the other hand, Dewi, a resident of Lembang, mentioned that rain had been pouring down on their area since noon. This condition led to flooding in several spots in Lembang. “It’s been raining since noon, and then it rained heavily again. One thing for sure, there’s always a flood in front of the Panorama Market, it’s like a regular thing,” she said.
Alrighty, folks, seems like Mother Nature decided to do a little dance in Ciburial, Cibogo, last night, causing quite a stir. Fishermen were just minding their own business, trying to catch some fish, when bam! A landslide came crashing down on them. Luckily, no one got buried, but a few did get hurt and had to be taken to the clinic. The BPBD officers and police are on the scene, trying to figure out the extent of the damage and help those in need. On top of that, Lembang also had to deal with some flooding in different areas, making life a bit more challenging for the residents. Let’s hope things calm down soon and everyone stays safe and sound.
