Floods Devastate Indramayu Due to Sudden River Overflow
In an unexpected turn of events, floods have ravaged several areas on the outskirts of the Cimanuk River Basin in Indramayu Regency on Friday, January 24, 2025. The flooding, caused by a sudden river overflow, has left many households submerged, with waters ranging from 30 centimeters to one meter high.
Residents Speak Out
Residents in the Pasekan District, one of the hardest-hit areas, have been grappling with the aftermath of the floods for over eight hours. In Desa Brondong, a village within the district, the water levels reached up to one meter high, causing distress among the locals. Raniah, a resident of Desa Brondong, recounted the harrowing experience of watching the floodwaters rush in from the nearby Cimanuk River. Despite the lack of rain in recent days, the surging waters have inundated their homes, disrupting daily life significantly.
Recurring Deluge
Raniah shared that this flooding incident marks the fourth time within a week that their community has been submerged due to the overflowing Cimanuk River. However, the current situation stands out as the most severe among all the previous floods. The absence of rainfall in their area raises concerns about the upstream water inflow triggering these destructive floods. The repeated inundation has disrupted Raniah’s routines, yet she remains grateful for being able to salvage valuable belongings and furniture by relocating them to higher ground.
