Humorous Stories of Prophet’s Companions
In a bustling afternoon near the Masjid Nabawi, Nu’aiman bin Amr strolled by and encountered a weary, overheated honey seller. A companion of Prophet Muhammad SAW, Nu’aiman approached the seller, struck up a conversation, and had a brilliant idea. “Doesn’t Rasulullah SAW like honey?” he mused to himself. Without hesitation, Nu’aiman patted the honey seller on the back. “Let me accompany you to the house of Rasulullah SAW!” Instantly, a smile lit up the merchant’s face. He thought to himself, “What an extraordinarily kind man willing to escort me to Prophet Muhammad SAW. How delighted he will be to buy my honey!”
Gift of Honey
As they neared Rasulullah SAW’s house, Nu’aiman instructed the honey seller to wait outside at a distance. Holding a bottle of honey, he stood at the door and knocked. The host welcomed him in. “O Rasulullah,” Nu’aiman said, “I know you like honey. Therefore, I offer you this honey as a gift.” As a messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad SAW was prohibited from accepting charity but allowed to receive gifts. With joy, Rasulullah SAW accepted the offering from his guest. Shortly after, Nu’aiman bid farewell, and Prophet Muhammad SAW prayed for his well-being.
A Waiting Game
Once Rasulullah SAW closed his door, Nu’aiman hurried back to the honey seller he had left behind. “Rasulullah SAW truly enjoys the honey you sell!” he exclaimed. The merchant beamed with joy. Before he could inquire about the proceeds from the “sale” of honey, Nu’aiman excused himself. “I must leave for another engagement. However, Rasulullah SAW will soon emerge from his home. Approach him directly!” he advised. The honey seller agreed. Minutes turned into half an hour of waiting, leading to restlessness. An hour passed, and anxiety set in as there were no signs of Prophet Muhammad SAW coming out of his home.
Persistent Approach
Finally, the merchant gathered courage to knock on Rasulullah SAW’s door. “Assalamu’alaikum waraḥmatullahi wabarakatuh,” he greeted. Prophet Muhammad SAW opened the door and saw a unfamiliar, forlorn figure standing before him.
