Menko Perekonomian Stresses Sea Walls Unrelated to PSN Development
JAKARTA — In response to widespread speculation, Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has firmly stated that the 30 km long sea wall in Tangerang waters has no connection to the National Strategic Project (PSN). This declaration comes amidst swirling rumors regarding the sea wall’s relationship to government initiatives.
“No, no, absolutely no connection. PSN is solely related to permitting in the mangrove areas, not in the PIK,” Airlangga remarked during an encounter in Jakarta on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) previously disclosed that the sea wall location in Tangerang waters, stretching approximately 30 km, is not part of the PSN. Doni Ismanto Darwin, Special Staff to the Minister for Public Relations and Public Communication at KKP, emphasized that sea wall construction violates regulations.
“The 30 km sea wall location is outside the scope of the PSN. Enclosing sea space without authorization disrupts public access, damages ecosystems, and violates UNCLOS 1982,” Doni stated in an interview with Republika on Friday, January 10, 2025.
### Government Action and Public Engagement
KKP has taken several measures to address this issue, including public discussions involving various stakeholders such as village heads, the Tangerang Regional Government, environmental experts, and fishermen associations. Doni revealed that based on satellite image analysis and geotagging data, the area is a result of sedimentation rather than erosion, requiring compliant utilization procedures.
Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono has also ordered a comprehensive investigation and enforcement against the sea wall. Doni expressed hope that collaborative efforts between local authorities and the community can unveil the responsible parties behind this sea enclosure.
“Pak Minister is committed to making ecology the top priority, and illegal actions that harm communities and ecosystems must not be tolerated,” Doni emphasized.
With the government’s promise to prioritize environmental protection and sustainable development, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to ensure the preservation of our natural resources and the well-being of our communities. Let’s join hands in safeguarding our environment for future generations.
