Navy Officers Arrested in Connection with Shooting of Car Rental Boss in Tangerang

In a shocking turn of events, two members of the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) are suspected to be involved in the shooting incident that resulted in the death of the car rental boss in Tangerang, Ilyas Abdurahman. The tragic incident took place at Rest Area KM 45 of the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road in Banten on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

At present, the two navy officers in question have been apprehended by the Navy Military Police Center (Puspomal). According to Ipda Purbawa, the Head of Public Relations at the Tangerang Police Resort, four individuals are believed to be behind the shooting of the car rental boss. All four suspects are currently in custody of the authorities.

Among the four perpetrators, two are civilians identified as Ajat Supriatna, also known as AS, and a man with the initials I. The remaining two suspects are reportedly members of the Indonesian Navy and are currently under the investigation of the Navy Military Police (Pomal). Purbawa stated, “Two others are suspected navy personnel, and we are coordinating with Puspom for the investigative process.”

Arrests and Charges

Ajat Supriatna and the individual identified as I were apprehended in the Pandeglang area of Banten on Friday, January 3, 2024. Both have been named as suspects in the case of vehicle theft involving Ilyas. Ajat Supriatna is believed to have rented the victim’s car, while I is accused of being involved in the disposal of the stolen vehicle.

Planning of the Crime

According to Ipda Purbawa, Ajat and I had meticulously planned the theft of the rental vehicle leased from Ilyas. While I was not directly implicated in the shooting incident, he was arrested as part of the investigation into the vehicle theft scheme orchestrated by Ajat Supriatna.

Investigation and Response

Purbawa emphasized that I’s role was to assist Ajat in the criminal act of stealing and absconding with the rented vehicle. “Although he (I) was not present during the shooting incident, he was apprehended based on the investigation and development of the case. Their position was in the planning of the vehicle theft,” Purbawa explained.
