The Sarasehan Islamic Economist & Muktamar V IAEI 2025 took place at Puri Agung Convention Hall Hotel Grand Sahid in Jakarta on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the Finance Minister, emphasized the significance of collaboration between academics, bureaucrats, and practitioners in establishing a just and inclusive Islamic economic system. She made these remarks during the Islamic Economist Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) Sarasehan event in Jakarta on Thursday.
Sri Mulyani highlighted the importance of merging academic knowledge, bureaucratic expertise, and practical experience to develop an economy that not only adheres to Islamic principles but also fosters genuine justice and prosperity. She pointed out that Sharia economics goes beyond halal and haram considerations to encompass governance principles rooted in trust, integrity, fatonah, and siddiq, which are essential for creating a prosperous economic framework. The Minister emphasized the value of Lil Alamin in Sharia economics, which promotes societal benefits and serves as a model for good governance.
Furthermore, Sri Mulyani commended the IAEI for its more than two-decade journey of integrating academic research with public policy contributions. Since the inception of the National Convention on Islamic Economics in 2004, the IAEI has consistently enhanced Islamic values-based scientific and strategic thinking. The Minister expressed her gratitude to the founders, senior members, and management team of the IAEI for their dedication to advancing Islamic economic principles and ensuring that Islam remains a continuous source of inspiration for economic development. She underscored the crucial role of the IAEI in facilitating cross-sectoral collaboration to strengthen the national Islamic economic system and implement policies that have tangible impacts on society.
