So, I was just chilling and reading about this wild stuff happening in Papua, you know? Apparently, the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) or the Free Papua Movement and the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) held a ceremony in Lannya Jaya, Papua Highlands.
According to the Markas Pusat Komnas TPNPB OPM management, they took responsibility for shooting the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) team in Sungai Rawara, Teluk Bintuni, West Papua. The TPNPB OPM spokesperson, Sebby Sambom, said they received an official report from Deni Moos, the Commander of TPNPB Kodap IV Sorong Raya about the incident. “All troops from TPNPB Kodap IV Sorong Raya, consisting of nine battalions, have been deployed in various areas in the battlefield in the Moskona region, ready to execute Indonesian military personnel who are looking for the body of Iptu Tomi Samuel Marbun, a former detective from Teluk Bintuni who was killed by the Indonesian military and then dumped his body in the Rawara river to feed the crocodiles,” as reported by Republika on Monday night.
He mentioned that Manfret Fatem, the Operations Commander of TPNPB Kodap IV Sorong Raya, reported that the attack on Indonesian military forces in Sungai Rawara began on April 27, 2025, as a significant warning. The aim was to urge all civilians associated with the Indonesian military in Sungai Rawara to immediately evacuate the TPNPB operational area. “And specifically, Fritz Ramandey, the Head of the Papua Human Rights Commission, if he gets shot, it’s justified because he didn’t follow the law. In this case, he took over the duties of the BPBD that should have been on the ground searching for the body of Samuel Marbun, who was killed by his own colleagues since 2024,” he said.
He added that the Indonesian Government’s Military Operation in the Moskona region was an effort to uphold the reputation of the military institution, even if it meant sacrificing other civilians in the operational area of TPNPB Kodap IV Sorong Raya. “And it is also conveyed to President Prabowo Subianto to immediately open up negotiation space with TPNPB mediated by a neutral third party as a facilitator and mediator to resolve the political issues between the Indonesian government and the people of Papua to stop the war in Papua,” Sebby said.
I mean, I’m not really sure why this matters, but the whole situation seems pretty intense. The tension between the OPM, KKB, and the Indonesian military is just escalating, and it’s causing a lot of chaos and violence in the region. It’s like a never-ending cycle of conflict and retaliation. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like there’s no end in sight to this turmoil. The call for negotiations and mediation sounds good in theory, but will it actually lead to a peaceful resolution? Who knows, man.
But hey, that’s the situation in Papua right now. It’s a messy, complicated, and dangerous place to be. Hopefully, they can find a way to sort things out and bring some peace to the region. Until then, it’s just a waiting game to see what happens next.
