The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) has been lauded by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for its innovative use of statistical data in shaping agricultural policies and accelerating self-sufficiency in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s ambitious vision for the upcoming year. The appreciation was expressed during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Statistics Agency at the Ministry’s headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, the Acting Head of BPS, commended Kementan for effectively leveraging the results of surveys, remote sensing, and other datasets to inform agricultural policies. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two institutions in advancing the agricultural sector. Amalia expressed gratitude for the unified data approach, where BPS-generated data through area sample frameworks and calculations were utilized.

“Once again, we appreciate the Minister for his coordination in nurturing statistical data. Alhamdulillah, we now have a unified dataset, and Kementan stands out as a leader in statistical data utilization,” Amalia remarked. She stressed the need to enhance cooperation and collaboration through sophisticated methodologies to bolster data quality in tackling future challenges.

“This partnership must be strengthened by implementing advanced methodologies to enhance data accuracy. Therefore, BPS is fully committed to supporting Kementan in realizing the President’s programs by providing superior statistical data,” Amalia added.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman underscored the critical role of BPS in delivering accurate data to support the ministry’s initiatives. Amran highlighted the ministry’s reliance on BPS for proportional and professional assistance in achieving food self-sufficiency.

“We do not want to release our own data unless it is sourced from BPS. Whether in official meetings or other gatherings, we will rely on BPS data,” Amran affirmed.

Importance of Data in Agricultural Development

The collaboration between Kementan and BPS underscores the significance of data-driven decision-making in advancing agricultural development. By utilizing comprehensive statistical data, policymakers can tailor strategies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in the agricultural sector. The seamless integration of data from multiple sources allows for a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the agricultural industry.

Expert insight from Amalia and Amran emphasizes the transformative impact of accurate and reliable data in shaping policy outcomes and driving progress towards self-sufficiency goals. The partnership between BPS and Kementan serves as a model for effective interagency cooperation in harnessing data for national development.

Future Prospects and Collaborative Efforts

Looking ahead, the commitment to enhancing data methodologies and ensuring data quality remains a top priority for both BPS and Kementan. By embracing innovative approaches and leveraging advanced technologies, the institutions aim to strengthen the foundation of data-driven decision-making in the agricultural sector.

The ongoing collaboration between BPS and Kementan sets a precedent for other government agencies to prioritize data integrity and cooperation in policy formulation. As Indonesia strives to achieve self-sufficiency in food production, the synergy between data providers and policymakers will be instrumental in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities for growth and sustainability in the agricultural landscape.

The partnership between BPS and Kementan exemplifies a shared commitment to harnessing the power of data for the benefit of the agricultural sector and the nation as a whole. Through continuous collaboration and a focus on data quality, Indonesia is poised to realize its agricultural potential and pave the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future.
