TRIBUNNEWS.COM – A tragic accident has struck the police force in North Sumatra as Deputy Chief of the Belawan Port Police, Commissioner Iwan Kurnianto, lost his life in a car crash early Sunday morning on January 5, 2025.
The incident occurred as the victim was on duty checking a Security Post in the Marelan area of Medan, North Sumatra. While heading back home, the vehicle driven by Police Officer Diki Dermawan collided with a truck on the Belawan Toll Road in the Martubung Village, Labuhan Medan District, Medan.
Despite being rushed to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Medan, Commissioner Iwan Kurnianto could not be saved. His wife, Yanti, sustained injuries to her forehead and upper cheek.
The heartbreaking news has left the North Sumatra Regional Police mourning the loss of a dedicated officer. Commissioner Iwan Kurnianto had only been serving as the Deputy Chief of the Belawan Port Police for four months after being appointed in September 2024.
