Local Leaders from Akmil Magelang Retreat Experience Deteriorating Health Conditions, 3 Hospitalized

A retreat for five local leaders at the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java took a concerning turn as reports emerged of their declining health due to exhaustion. Among them, three individuals required immediate medical attention and were rushed to Tidar Regional Hospital in Magelang for treatment. The remaining two participants were advised to rest in their tents.

Widely recognized figures such as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto confirmed the distressing health issues faced by these leaders, including high blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels. “Yes, there are participants who fell ill. I just checked on them, and their conditions are still manageable. Some have high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and exhaustion, necessitating hospitalization,” shared Bima on Sunday, February 23, 2025, as reported by TribunJogja.com.

According to Bima, the demanding schedule from their recent inauguration at the Presidential Palace to the rigorous retreat at Akmil Magelang contributed to their compromised health. The factor of age also played a significant role, as several participants were elderly individuals. “Three individuals are currently hospitalized, while the other two are resting in tents. They simply need time to recover,” Bima explained.

Of the three local leaders receiving hospital care, two required overnight stays, while one received intravenous vitamin C therapy or outpatient treatment. Reports indicated that the two leaders hospitalized were grappling with diabetes and high blood pressure. Bima further revealed that the health conditions of these three leaders had notably improved.

Participants who fell ill were advised not to partake in the retreat’s activities until fully recovered. “The schedule is indeed quite packed, but if someone is unable to attend a session, they can rest first to ensure they are fit for the next one,” emphasized Bima.

The day’s retreat agenda included presentations from the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) and was set to conclude with a session led by Finance Minister Sri Mulyani. Additionally, on Monday, February 24, 2025, presentations were scheduled from seven ministers, Chief of the Indonesian National Defense Forces General Agus Subiyanto, Head of the State Intelligence Agency M. Herindra, and Head of the Central Statistics Agency Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti.

As the local leaders navigate their health challenges, the importance of prioritizing well-being amidst demanding responsibilities comes to the forefront, emphasizing the need for self-care and rest to effectively fulfill their duties.

The evolving situation at the retreat highlights the critical balance between professional obligations and personal health, underscoring the significance of recognizing and addressing health concerns promptly to sustain long-term effectiveness in leadership roles.
