Government Lowers Airplane Ticket and Toll Fee for Homecoming Period

In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on travelers during the homecoming period of Eid al-Fitr, the Indonesian government has officially announced a reduction in both domestic flight ticket prices and toll road tariffs. This initiative, spearheaded by Minister Coordinator for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), was unveiled during a press conference at Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten on Saturday, March 1st, 2025.

The decision to lower air and land transportation costs was a direct response to President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to support the public in alleviating the financial strain of travel expenses. Minister AHY emphasized that the goal was to replicate the price reductions seen during the previous Christmas holiday season, with an added incentive of a 6% government subsidy on value-added tax (VAT) for an enhanced travel experience. “The aim is to mimic the ticket price drops from last Christmas, but with an added bonus of partial government coverage of 6% VAT. Ultimately, this should enable the government to reduce airfare prices,” he stated. The collective reduction in domestic flight ticket prices is estimated to range between 13% and 14%, marking a significant contribution to the overall travel cost reduction.

Collaboration between various institutions and ministries, including state-owned enterprises (BUMN), the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, and the Ministry of Finance, facilitated the adjustment of ticket prices. Minister AHY highlighted the positive impact of this policy on the economy, anticipating a substantial boost of 13% to 14% in domestic economic activity over the two-week period leading up to Eid al-Fitr. He expressed optimism that the reduced airfare prices would benefit individuals who had made preparations to return to their hometowns and celebrate the festive occasion with their families.

Meanwhile, the toll road tariff reduction will see a 20% discount implemented across all toll roads in Indonesia, aiming to reduce land travel expenses for the public. Minister AHY underscored the significance of this measure in easing the financial burden of ground transportation. “There will be a 20% discount on toll roads across various segments in Indonesia as part of our efforts to reduce land travel costs for our citizens,” he affirmed. In conjunction with this, the government has also decreased avtur prices at several airports to facilitate the overall reduction of airfare prices by a minimum of 13%.

To further facilitate smooth travel during the homecoming period, the government is actively engaged in road infrastructure improvements and enhancing travel amenities. Minister AHY revealed ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Transportation and BUMN to organize free homecoming trips for 100,000 individuals, encompassing both train and sea travel, in a bid to provide additional assistance to travelers.

As the homecoming season approaches, these measures are poised to make a tangible difference in the lives of countless travelers, enabling them to reunite with loved ones while enjoying reduced travel expenses. The collaborative efforts of various governmental bodies reflect a commitment to enhancing public welfare and fostering a sense of unity and celebration during this auspicious time of year.
