The International Turkistan East Organization Engages with MUI, Addressing Current Challenges
In a bold move to amplify international advocacy for Uyghur rights, the International Turkistan East Organization recently launched its civil diplomacy initiative in Jakarta, Indonesia. The delegation engaged with key institutions and leaders to bolster global advocacy efforts for the Uyghur people.
On February 3, 2025, a high-level meeting took place at the headquarters of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (Majelis Ulama Indonesia, MUI) with central leaders, including the Secretary General and representatives from prominent organizations like Muhammadiyah, Persis, and Friends for Palestine. The discussions centered on the struggle of East Turkistan in Indonesia, joint initiatives, awareness programs, and strategies to enhance support for the Uyghur community.
One of the primary agendas was the plight of Uyghur scholars and religious leaders facing persecution, imprisonment, and execution under the Chinese government’s policies. The delegation urged MUI and relevant institutions to take concrete steps in addressing these human rights violations.
### Workshop on Civil Diplomacy for Uyghur Rights
A significant outcome of this visit was a workshop on civil diplomacy for Uyghur rights in Indonesia, led by Secretary General Buya Amirsyah Tambunan and MUI Chairman for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation Prof. Sudarnoto. The workshop aimed to develop a roadmap to strengthen international advocacy efforts and mobilize support within Indonesian society.
Furthermore, consultations were held with the leadership of the Indonesian Muslim Students Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam, HMI) to explore potential collaborations in education and awareness programs related to Uyghur rights and global justice issues. This engagement in Indonesia marks a crucial step in the broader diplomatic strategy of the International Turkistan East Organization to strengthen alliances and mobilize support across the global Muslim community.
The delegation will continue its efforts in the region, solidifying partnerships and advocating for the rights and freedoms of the Uyghur people, embodying a commitment to justice and human dignity.
