President Prabowo Subianto and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey recently witnessed the signing and exchange of twelve memorandums of understanding (MoU) between the governments of Indonesia and Turkey. This historic event took place at the Bogor Presidential Palace in West Java on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, following a bilateral meeting between the two leaders.
During the press briefing, President Prabowo expressed, “In our meeting, we discussed various collaborations that align with the national priorities of both countries.” President Erdogan also stated that Indonesia and Turkey have agreed to strengthen cooperation in several key areas, including defense, energy, and education. The signing of approximately 12 agreements covering energy, health, agriculture, defense industry, communication, and education, as well as a joint statement, marked a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations.
At this momentous occasion, thirteen cooperation documents have been agreed upon by both countries. One of the most notable MoUs is the agreement for a Turkish drone manufacturer to establish a factory in Indonesia. The collaboration agreements between Indonesia and Turkey include:
1. Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Head of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in religious services and religious education.
2. Cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey in the field of energy and mineral resources.
3. Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in higher education between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia and the Higher Education Council of the Republic of Turkey.
4. Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in the fields of health and medical sciences.
5. Memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation in the defense industry between the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia and the Presidential Defense Industry Secretariat of the Republic of Turkey.
6. Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Turkey on enhancing trade cooperation.
7. Memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation in agriculture.
8. Expression of intent between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of Turkey on the promotion and facilitation of investment.
9. Memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey on the establishment of a joint committee for industrial cooperation.
10. Joint venture agreement between Republikorp and Baykar for the establishment of a drone factory in Indonesia.
11. Cooperation protocol between the Turkish Radio Television Corporation (TRT) and the Indonesian Public Broadcasting Television (LPP TVRI) in the field of television.
12. Memorandum of understanding between the Turkish Radio Television Corporation (TRT) and the Indonesian Public Radio Broadcasting (LPP RRI) in the field of radio broadcasting.
13. Cooperation agreement between Anadolu Ajansi (AA) and the Antara Indonesia News Agency.
