Sekjen PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto Successfully Escapes KPK Detention: Sympathetic Reactions

In a surprising turn of events, the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, managed to evade detention by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) after being interrogated for approximately 3.5 hours.

The Ordeal

According to observations by Tribunnews.com, Hasto Kristiyanto entered the second-floor interrogation room around 10:00 AM and exited at approximately 1:32 PM. The Secretary-General, known for the party logo of a white-tusked bull, chose to remain silent during the proceedings, with all communication being handled by his legal team, led by Maqdir Ismail.

Maqdir Ismail addressed the press, stating, “I want to convey that today’s interrogation process has been completed for the day. Subsequent interrogations will be conducted as required by the investigators.” However, details regarding the schedule of Hasto’s future questioning were not disclosed by Maqdir, who also refrained from revealing the specific topics discussed during the interrogation.

Avoiding Public Disclosure

Maqdir emphasized that an agreement had been reached between Hasto and the investigators not to divulge the specifics of the interrogation to the public. He clarified, “For other matters related to the case, please direct your inquiries to the investigators as this is our agreement with them. We are only disclosing that Mr. Hasto was questioned regarding two issues, namely bribery and obstruction of investigation.”

After the interrogation, Hasto, accompanied by the PDIP Legal Team, proceeded to a red and white bus to depart from the KPK building. They were accompanied by a group of supporters who chanted “Merdeka” (freedom).

Support and Preparedness

In a separate statement, Ronny B. Talapessy, the Chairman of the PDIP’s Legal Reform Division, affirmed that Hasto Kristiyanto was prepared to face detention by the KPK on that day. Ronny mentioned that Hasto was being questioned as a suspect in a case involving alleged bribery for the appointment of a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2019-2024 term and obstruction of investigation.

“Mas Hasto has conveyed everything, ready with a firm head and a smiling face,” Ronny shared with the press at the KPK’s Red and White Building in South Jakarta. He assured that the party with the white-tusked bull logo would fully comply with the ongoing legal process.

This unexpected twist in the case of Hasto Kristiyanto has left many wondering about the implications for Indonesian politics and the future of the PDIP. As the situation continues to unfold, the eyes of the nation remain fixed on the developments surrounding one of the country’s most prominent political figures.
