The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek) is actively supporting the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the cosmetics industry. Through a talk show titled “The Future of Beauty with Wardah Beauty AI” held on Friday, February 14, 2025, the ministry emphasized its commitment to boosting digital talent in Indonesia, particularly in the field of AI.
Karlisa Priandana, Acting Director of Research and Development Talent Building at the Directorate General of Research and Development, highlighted the limited digital talent in Indonesia, especially in AI. Priandana stressed the importance of enhancing human resources to ensure that Indonesia not only consumes but also creates AI technology. “The government, particularly within Kemendikti Saintek, will support the provision of digital talents who are well-versed in AI technology so that we can innovate and not just utilize existing technology,” Priandana expressed during the Wardah Beauty AI talk show in Jakarta.
Recognizing Wardah as a key player in the cosmetic industry that has integrated AI into its research and product development, Priandana commended the brand’s commitment to leveraging AI innovation. Priandana emphasized the critical role of AI-based innovation in creating products tailored to the specific needs of Indonesian skin, such as determining the right skin tone, preventing allergies, and ensuring product safety. “I have seen many Wardah products utilizing AI, and I truly appreciate it. Why should the cosmetic industry embrace AI? Because cosmetics need to be customized to suit individual skin needs, and AI can be integrated to analyze these requirements,” Priandana explained.
In addition to supporting research and development initiatives, Priandana mentioned that Kemendikti Saintek would facilitate the establishment of AI regulations in the cosmetics industry. He underscored the importance of creating regulations that support the growth of AI technology innovation. “We must ensure that regulations are crafted carefully. If they are too stringent, innovation may be hindered, but if the regulations are too lax, there are safety risks. So, we must proceed with caution,” Priandana elaborated.
Empowering Digital Talents for the Future
In the quest to nurture digital talents for the future, Kemendikti Saintek is gearing up to provide the necessary support and resources to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required to navigate the realm of artificial intelligence. By enhancing the capacity of Indonesia’s workforce in AI technology, the ministry aims to position the country as a hub for innovation and technological advancement in the cosmetics industry.
By investing in the development of digital talents, Kemendikti Saintek is laying the foundation for a more robust and competitive industry landscape, where local talents can drive AI innovation and contribute to the creation of cutting-edge cosmetic products that cater to diverse consumer needs. Through collaborative efforts with industry stakeholders, educational institutions, and government bodies, Kemendikti Saintek is spearheading a transformative journey towards a digitally empowered workforce poised to lead the way in the cosmetics sector.
Striking a Balance with AI Regulations
As AI continues to revolutionize the cosmetics industry, the need for comprehensive regulations becomes increasingly apparent. Kemendikti Saintek’s proactive approach to supporting the formulation of AI regulations underscores the ministry’s commitment to fostering a regulatory environment that encourages innovation while prioritizing consumer safety.
Navigating the delicate balance between fostering innovation and ensuring safety, Kemendikti Saintek recognizes the nuanced nature of AI regulations in the cosmetics sector. By engaging in thoughtful and meticulous discussions with industry experts, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders, the ministry aims to develop a regulatory framework that safeguards consumer interests, promotes technological advancements, and fosters a culture of responsible AI utilization.
In conclusion, as the cosmetics industry embraces AI technology to drive product innovation and enhance consumer experiences, the concerted efforts of government bodies, industry players, and digital talents are poised to shape a future where AI-driven solutions revolutionize the beauty landscape while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and ethical practices.
