PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto Prepares for KPK Summons
In a press conference at the PDIP Central Executive Board Office on Diponegoro Street, Menteng, Jakarta, on Thursday, Hasto Kristiyanto, the Secretary-General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), made a public appearance ahead of his summons by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Thursday, 9 January 2025.
Background and Current Status
Hasto Kristiyanto is currently a suspect in two cases involving alleged bribery related to the replacement of members of the House of Representatives and obstruction of the investigation into the Harun Masiku case. The KPK officially designated him as a suspect on 24 December 2024.
After receiving a summons from the KPK to appear for questioning on Monday, 13 January 2025, Hasto expressed his willingness to cooperate and attend the scheduled meeting.
Previous Summonses and Compliance
Despite being called in by the KPK for the first time on Monday, 6 January 2025, Hasto did not comply, citing prior commitments to PDIP’s 52nd-anniversary celebration activities, which were scheduled until 10 January 2025. The KPK rescheduled his summons for Monday, 13 January 2025.
Hasto emphasized his commitment to the rule of law and democracy, acknowledging the political legacy of PDIP from Indonesia’s first President, Soekarno, to the fifth President, Megawati Soekarnoputri. He stated his intention to honor the KPK’s summons in line with the party’s principles.
Personal Touch: Dyeing Hair Black
In a light-hearted moment, Hasto shared his preparations before facing the KPK summons. He humorously mentioned that he had dyed his hair black, symbolizing his belief in the clarity of the law. “If someone asks about my preparations, at least my hair has been dyed black,” he joked. “But it’s like a symbol that there are no gray areas in the law.”
This touch of humor amidst a serious legal situation showcases Hasto’s ability to maintain composure and provide a glimpse into his personality beyond his political role. It humanizes him as he navigates the challenges of legal proceedings, adding a relatable dimension to his public image.
