Angkasa Pura Diverts 23 Flights Landing to Soekarno-Hatta

TANGERANG – On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, a total of 23 aircraft heading to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, had their landings diverted due to extreme weather conditions and limited visibility on the airport runway. The decision to divert these flights was made as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers and crew amidst challenging weather conditions.

Deputy GM Operation 5 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Didik Agus Suryono, shed light on the situation, emphasizing that whenever inclement weather prevents aircraft from landing at the intended destination, they are rerouted to alternative airports rather than having their flight paths altered. “Last night, not today. What I mean is, during severe weather, if aircraft are unable to land, they choose to divert to an alternative airport instead of changing their route,” explained Didik in Tangerang on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Of the 23 flights that had their landings diverted, 19 were domestic flights, while the remaining 4 were international flights. These flights were redirected to alternative airports such as Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Yogyakarta, Palembang, and Lampung. Didik further added, “Once the weather clears up, the airlines that were diverted will resume their flights and land at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.”

However, despite the challenges posed by the inclement weather, Didik mentioned that by Tuesday evening, the weather had improved significantly, allowing for a safe return of the diverted flights to land at their intended destination. “By around the evening, the conditions were much better. It can be said that by 6:00 PM local time, flights had returned to normal operations,” he stated.

He emphasized that as of Wednesday morning, all flights and landings at Soekarno-Hatta Airport had resumed normal operations as the weather conditions had improved. “This morning, thankfully the weather was supportive. It rained this morning, but it did not impact the landing operations. We are operating at full capacity,” Didik assured.

Meanwhile, Assistant Deputy Communication and Legal at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, M Holik Muardi, confirmed that access roads to several terminals at the airport had returned to normal following previous flood-related disruptions. PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, the management company of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, ensured that the airport’s operations were running smoothly without any significant issues. With the restoration of access roads to the airport terminals, passengers were advised to coordinate regularly with their airlines regarding flight schedules and arrive early at the airport.

“PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is committed to continuously improving the quality of service for the airport’s users,” stated M Holik Muardi, emphasizing the importance of providing a seamless travel experience for passengers.

In conclusion, the challenges posed by inclement weather conditions can disrupt air travel operations, but the swift actions taken by airport authorities ensure the safety and well-being of passengers and crew. By prioritizing safety and effective communication, airports like Soekarno-Hatta strive to provide a reliable and efficient travel experience for all passengers.
