Alright, so a bunch of online motorcycle taxi drivers who decided to protest held a meeting with the Ministry of Transportation at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs office on Tuesday (20/5/2025). The purpose of the meeting was to directly convey the demands of the online motorcycle taxi drivers to the government. The meeting lasted about an hour and was done behind closed doors. The Secretary-General of the Indonesian Online Drivers Union (Sepoi), Einstein Dialektika, stated that they had already presented all the demands of the online motorcycle taxi drivers to the Ministry of Transportation. He emphasized the importance of revising the regulations regarding online transportation rates by the government.

The demands included a request for a fare increase and a maximum limit of 10 percent deduction from the app companies for drivers. They also urged the Ministry of Transportation to immediately revise Ministerial Regulation Number 12 of 2019 and formulate new regulations on online transportation. Einstein added that these demands would also be brought up to the House of Representatives. He mentioned that the online motorcycle taxi drivers had been invited to attend a hearing with the DPR Commission V on Wednesday (21/5/2025). “So now we just have to wait and see how the Ministry of Transportation responds,” he said. On the other hand, the Director-General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, mentioned that they had received all the aspirations from the online motorcycle taxi drivers. He affirmed that they would soon discuss the demands that had been presented. “We are absorbing the aspirations from our partners. We will definitely discuss them soon,” said Aan. He revealed that some of the main demands from the online motorcycle taxi drivers included a request for fare increases, a maximum 10 percent deduction from the app companies, and an adjustment of rates for courier or delivery services. “We will discuss it. Because there are indeed many variables,” Aan said.

In the end, it seems like the Ministry of Transportation is at least willing to listen to the grievances of the online motorcycle taxi drivers. Whether they will actually make any significant changes remains to be seen. Let’s hope for the best for these hardworking drivers who provide essential services to many people.
