In a heartwarming display of compassion and solidarity, the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) organized a charitable event titled ‘Ramadan Sharing with PAN for the People’ at the Baiturrahman Mosque in the DPR RI Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Led by the Chairman of the PAN Faction in the DPR RI, Putri Zulkifli Hasan, the party distributed 3,000 packages of basic necessities to various groups in need.
Ramadan, a time of reflection and giving, was deemed as the perfect opportunity to strengthen empathy and support for others. Putri Zulkifli Hasan highlighted the significance of sharing and caring during the holy month, emphasizing PAN’s commitment to not only legislative duties but also community service. “Ramadan teaches us the meaning of sharing and compassion. Through this initiative, the PAN Faction aims to demonstrate our presence not just in the legislative arena but also amongst the people in need. May this assistance lighten the burden and bring blessings to us all,” Putri expressed at the event.
Zulkifli Hasan, also known as Zulhas, the Chairman of the National Board of PAN, and Putri’s father, further elaborated on the importance of empathy and generosity in Islam. He emphasized the duty of those with abundance to share with their less fortunate siblings as a fundamental practice in the faith. “Empathy means sharing with our brothers and sisters. If we have plenty, we should share. Fasting teaches us that we are all siblings, that we are interconnected like one body. If one is lacking, we all feel the deficiency. If a friend is unwell, we feel the pain too,” Zulhas explained, underscoring the core values of compassion and unity.
Spreading Hope and Support During Challenging Times
The distribution of 3,000 food packages by the PAN faction not only provided essential supplies to those in need but also offered a ray of hope and support during challenging times. As the COVID-19 pandemic continued to impact communities across Indonesia, the gesture of solidarity resonated deeply with the recipients, reminding them that they were not alone in their struggles.
Expertly navigating the intersection of faith, community service, and political responsibility, PAN’s initiative showcased a holistic approach to public service. By recognizing the spiritual significance of Ramadan and translating it into tangible assistance for the marginalized, the party demonstrated a commitment to uplifting society beyond legislative mandates.
Uniting Through Compassion and Generosity
Zulhas’ poignant words on the interconnectedness of humanity and the shared responsibility to uplift one another struck a chord with many, resonating beyond the confines of religious teachings. His call for empathy and generosity served as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity in times of need, transcending political divides and social barriers.
In a world often marked by division and discord, initiatives like ‘Ramadan Sharing with PAN for the People’ serve as beacons of hope and solidarity, uniting communities through acts of kindness and compassion. As Zulhas aptly articulated, the essence of empathy lies in our willingness to share and support one another, fostering bonds of kinship that transcend individual interests and affiliations.
By embodying the spirit of Ramadan through practical acts of charity and compassion, the PAN faction exemplified the transformative power of collective action in creating a more inclusive and caring society. As the echoes of their generosity reverberated through the community, they left an indelible mark of unity and hope, reminding us all of the profound impact of empathy and solidarity in shaping a brighter future for Indonesia and beyond.
